Around the tours – the LPGA, Ladies European Tour (LET) and European Tour – Sunday came early. They're all playing events on the other side of the International Date Line this week.
Tracking the schedules over the coming six weeks, we get a picture of a global sport that's increasingly expanding the boundaries that have traditionally defined the game of golf.
The LPGA kicked off a 2-event spring Asia Swing this week with the Honda LPGA Thailand before returning to the United States for the Founders Cup in Phoenix in late March.
The LET is right in the middle of a swing that started in New Zealand, continued on to Australia, and will romp through China, Morocco and Turkey before returning to the European continent in mid-June for the TipSport Golf Masters in the Czech Republic.
And the European Tour, too, is playing events in southeast Asia, Australia, Thailand and India, hooking up briefly with the PGA TOUR for the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral this coming week and again for the WGC-Dell Match Play in Austin and the Masters before returning to the European continent.
But back to Sunday, and three new champions – none of them new to that 72nd hole euphoria.
