Matt Millar is aiming to continue his incredible run of form in the Perth International, which he hopes will catapult him into the European tour.

The 39-year-old Canberran enjoyed a successful start to the year, which he began by placing second at the Victorian Open. He then followed with third in the Victorian PGA Championship last week.

"Very happy with the start [to the year]," Millar said. "I hoped to get out there and continue with what I've been doing and not changing anything and I certainly did that."

Millar will now travel to Perth next week, where he expects a sterner challenge at a "tough" Lake Karrinyup Country Club.

"The quality of the field is fairly deep, with Europe and Asia involved," he said.

"It's a funny golf course; scores could be all over the place. It could be high-scoring or it could be average scoring just depending on how the course is set up."

Success at the Perth tournament could prove definitive for Millar's year, as he hopes to crack the European tour and eventually take part in his second major event.

"You'd be mad not to take up some of the opportunities of playing some of the events on the European tour," Millar said. "I'd certainly love to be in that position, having to make that decision [on which events to play]."

"I certainly want to try and play another major this year; I want to try to qualify for the US Open."

Millar will be looking to build on his outstanding results from last year, during which he claimed his first professional event victory at the New Zealand PGA Championship and placed in the top 10 in several tournaments.

He regards a more positive mentality as the catalyst for his success over the past year.

"The changes I made upstairs in my own head, the way I approach it are a lot more positive, a lot more confident," he said.

"Getting that belief out there and running with it, that was a big thing."
