Send experts on European trip

Re: "CRD directors win backing for sludge tour around Europe," Sept. 7.

Am I the only one to whom this sounds like an unnecessary and extravagant expense? Are the trips to the sites even necessary?

Could adequate understanding of the processes not be gained via video-conferencing? Would it not make more sense for professional and knowledgeable staff to attend instead of sending the directors?

I tend to agree with Metchosin Mayor John Ranns' suggestion of "putting it out for expressions of interest" rather than continued research.

My concern, if the trips do happen, is that the processes being viewed will be obsolete by the time our politicians decide which system to implement.

Sewage and what to do with it was a hot topic when we moved to Victoria in 1980. For how much longer will it continue as a hot topic?

A crude but appropriate comment perhaps, but make a decision "or get off the pot."
